Under the direction (and cheerleading) of Jill Mulholland, students in the Summer Industry Course (VIZA 627) worked with visiting professionals from DreamWorks Studios to produce three animated shorts. The class was divided into teams. Each team had to develop a storyline around the simple concept of a robot on an assembly line. Teams were then assigned to produce a thirty-second short containing fluid, smoke, and illuminated (sparkle) effects. Working on a tight production schedule for the entire summer, the teams successfully produced the following animated shorts.

Those who visited the New Technology exhibit space at SIGGRAPH this year had the opportunity to experience Atta. Produced by Carol LaFayette, the Atta project mapped tunnels and chambers of a vast ant colony. An 8x8 meter Ground Penetrating Radar scan was translated into polygons, resulting in a model that can be viewed on an immersive visualization system.

Students, Faculty and Staff traveled to Los Angeles to attend or take part in SIGGRAPH 2008.

Goobees, was a part of the SIGGRAPH 2008 Computer Animation Festival. Chosen from hundreds of submissions from all over the world, Goobees was presented in the new Nokia Theater to an international audience of CG professionals.

Lauren Simpson worked with fellow students to produce a music video for the band, Motion City Soundtrack. Lauren's video can be viewed at www.mtvu.com.

Jon Reisch and his team at PIXAR received the award for "Best Effects in an Animated Motion Picture" at the Visual Effects Society's sixth annual gala event at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
