William Jenks is Director of the Texas A&M Visualization Laboratory and Assistant Department Head of the Visualization Department in the College of Architecture. He is responsible for strategic planning, development and coordination of Laboratory and Department operations. Educated in architecture practice, fine art and design, Bill has long been an advocate for the integration of new media in those disciplines. He has been developing hybrid media facilities at A&M for thirty years. Previously, he conducted architecture research at the University of Florida, applying advanced media and technology to the visualization of built environment design and analysis. Along the way he has worked in architectural practice as a designer, partner and consultant. He is active in the visual and performing arts, exhibiting independently and in collaboration. Research and creative interests in conventional+digital areas include the architecture of creative space, design communication, sonic space, videography, performance staging, multimedia and installation.
During the past twenty years, Bill has been a key participant in establishing and advancing the Visualization Laboratory. He has served in director positions for thirteen years including the planning, construction and start-up phase of that facility. This internationally recognized laboratory provides an advanced integrated studio environment for the art and science of visualization. He was a principal in the development of the academic program in Visualization Sciences, and an earlier proposal for an undergraduate visual studies degree. Bill is applying insight gained from four decades of exploration and operational experience to new visualization programs in the Visualization Department at Texas A&M. |
