| My Journey of Faith
I grew up in a Christian home in a rural part of central Texas. Most of the activities and events I participated in during my youth were linked to my family's involvement with church. |
 |
 |
St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Gerald, Texas was founded, in part, by my great-great-grandfather. My grandparents were married there, and so were my parents.
When I left home to go to college, I decided to pursue a career in the ministry. I became a youth minister and worked with a couple of churches in North/Central Texas. |
| It was during this time that I realized that just because I do believe, and care for others, did not mean that I was called to the ministry. In the eyes of others, clergy are supposed to care, but when you're just a fellow human being who cares, I learned your efforts to help can (sometimes) mean more to those in need. |
| Jesus Wasn't "Normal"
For years, I suppressed my homosexuality because of my faith. I made a lot of mistakes in my life during my pursuit for normalcy.
After a couple of life changing events, I walked through the doors of Friend's Congregational Church in College Station, Texas to listen to Rev. Michael Piazza speak about being a gay believer. |
 |
| Piazza's book, Holy Homosexuals, became a lifesaver for me. The bible can be interpreted in so many different ways, and "how it should be" translated and interpreted has been the source of so much pain and suffering for all kinds of people who are labeled "different." I am sure there are those who could argue against every point that Piazza makes in his book, and that is fine. In this country, EVERYONE...and I do mean EVERYONE has the right to believe and worship freely. |

My Church
I am currently a member of Friends Congregational Church. |
| "...In the Spirit of love and openness we welcome into this community of faith persons of every sexual orientation, race, nationality, ability, age and gender to participate in all aspects of our church's life and ministry." |
| My Journey of Faith Continues When it comes to issues of God and faith, I am confident that I DO NOT have all the answers. My faith continues to be challenged, but I do believe that I am never alone.
