Virtual Reconstruction of a 17th Century Portuguese Nau
Using data provided by Texas A&M nautical archaeologist Dr. Filipe Castro, I created a detailed 3D model of the 1606 Portuguese "Nau" and cargo using Autodesk Maya. The model is interactively viewable on the real-time, immersive CAVE (computer-assisted virtual environment) system developed by Dr. Frederic Parke of the Texas A&M Viz Lab.
To get an up-close view of the detail in the model, please take a look at the following:
- High resolution image of ship (3200 x 2800 px, 1.44 MB)
- High resolution version of deck and cargo sequence (3200 x 7000 px, 3.58 MB)
